Social media can be one of those tasks that gets pushed to the bottom of your schedule on a day to day basis as you just don’t have them time. Maybe you have been making time but just aren’t getting what you want out of it. we take a look at some top tips for social media success. Use one, use them all. Hopefully you will find some of our advice, if not all of it, useful.

Get Smart with Social Media Scheduling

However you choose to schedule your content, be it using buffer, Hootsuite, Sprout Social or simply using the tools available on Business Suite, be smart about when you post. There are those that favour scheduling their content for just before or just after the hour. But why? Well, they believe that most people will check their social media feeds while waiting for a meeting to start or just after coming out of one!

Consider the optimum times to post too. Morning when people wake up and grab their phone, or when they are on the train to work or evenings on the way home. Many audiences peak at around 6pm which would suggest they are catching up at the end of a busy day. In fact, checking your audience insights on your social platforms will tell you when your audience is online.

Maximise Your Email Signature

Add your social media call-to-action to the bottom of your email:

  • Like our page on Facebook
  • Follow us on Instagram
  • Follow us on Twitter

By making these links clickable, you can encourage people to go directly to your profiles. If you know what you are doing with email signatures, you can make them really stand out with different colours, bold or italic text. You can also underline them.

Squirrel Away Content for a Rainy Day

Like what we did there? Got some time to spare. Instead of just focusing on today’s post why not spend some time making a few posts – that way you can either schedule them for the next few weeks or save some for when you run out of ideas. If you find some content that is absolutely perfect, don’t be tempted to share it on top of something you have already posted, keep it for another day.

Get Creative with Apps Like Canva

You will get very little interaction from plain text. You need to put more effort and thought into your social media posts. We have shared the above example before but we love it. Instead of putting up another picture of guttering and telling people to visit the website, we got creative with this post. It’s simple yet effective and far more engaging than a picture of some guttering. It’s also one of our favourite top tips for social media success.

Make the Most of Every Element of Social

From your profile and cover photos to your about us and services section, explore what is available to you on each social media platform and ensure that you are using it to your advantage. This goes for your posts too.

  • Profile picture
  • Cover photos
  • Link in bio
  • Website link
  • About us
  • Facebook and Instagram shop
  • Services
  • Tabs and templates on Facebook

Explore each platform and find out what you could be missing out on. It’s worth spending some time looking at the various options available to you and discovering what you could add to your pages.

Be Consistent

I have lost count of the number of times I have typed the word consistent when it comes to social media. From remaining consistent with your branding across all social media platforms, your tone of voice and message to ensuring that you post regularly, and not as and when you remember, consistency is key.

Here are a few top tips:

  • Use the same logo across everything
  • Stick to the same branding, colours, messages
  • Try and get the same Instagram, Facebook and twitter handle so that they are all the same. This will make it easier for your followers to find you
  • Don’t post once one week and then twice daily the next – keep a regular and consistent schedule – perhaps 4 posts per week for example.
  • If using an app like Canva to create your social media posts, keep to the same colours and font families

When it comes to succeeding at social media, consistency is key.

Vary Your Content

Posting yet another picture of your product isn’t going to engage an audience – after a while they will just switch off. Keep your content varied and interesting. Simple steps to vary your content include having a plan for each week or on a rotation. We like to work on a bi-weekly rotation to include the following

Curated post – industry specific news or headlines from a trusted source

Review post – taking a review, we generally create a graphic in Canva to make it look more alive than plain text

Sales post – a direct sales post – sale, discount, buy now, only two remaining etc. Link to your product or better still, tag the product from your Facebook shop

Sharing post – you can share something from someone else’s page, however, when your audience shares it they will get the credit. If there is anyway that you can take their image and share it as yours but giving them the credit, this will be more useful to you. Alternatively, if it’s a famous quote for example, get creative and create your own branded post to be shared.

Ask a question to engage – spot the difference, this or that, which colour, name this dog after the last thing you ate. No word of a lie, we shared this exact post for a client last week and it had 1,200 comments. that dog could have had some very cute names or some terrifying ones!

Behind the scenes – the team, showroom, you, products being made, work in progress… share something about the business behind the scenes.

Something funny – make people laugh

If you can sit down and do a bunch of posts all at once, this will really help you get ahead (we refer to our first tip on scheduling). If you are struggling for ideas and inspiration, you can always check out our 30 days of Facebook content post.

Use It, It’s Free

The great news is, our top tips for social media success are absolutely free. As is social media. For years, businesses had to pay sky high prices for advertising in Yellow pages, newspapers, on radio, TV, billboards and other forms of traditional media. Now, you can reach many more people at a fraction of the cost. The best thing about social media, unless you are doing paid for campaigns, it’s free! Why wouldn’t you use it? Especially given how many of your potential customers are.
